Lifting built around your week, your recovery and the bone and muscle worth keeping.
The first session is a conversation away from the gym, where we work out what has been stopping you.
If nothing changes in the first session, you don’t pay.
Message me with a little about where you are starting from and I will tell you exactly how I can help.
From your mid-thirties onwards your body stops holding onto muscle by default. You have to give it a reason to keep it, and the only reason it recognises is being asked to lift something.
Bone works the same way. Through menopause, oestrogen drops and bone loses density faster than it did before. Loading a bone is what tells it to lay down more material, which is why lifting protects your hips and spine in a way walking and cardio cannot.
Muscle is also what keeps you steady on your feet, what carries the shopping at seventy, and how much of your own life you can still do yourself in thirty years. This is the decade where building it is most straightforward.
Beginning at forty five means you are building on what you still have rather than trying to get back what has gone. That is a considerably easier job, and it is the reason this decade is the one that counts.
What we work on first is whatever has kept you out until now. That part is specific, it can be named, and it changes with the right process. The training itself is straightforward and it comes after.
About an hour, somewhere local and away from the gym. No kit, no assessment and nothing physical, so there is no fitness level required to start.
Twenty years of intentions, memberships and false starts, mapped in sequence. For women starting later this timeline is the most useful hour of the whole process.
We identify which part of it has actually kept you out, which is rarely what people assume before we look at it properly.
Perimenopause, sleep, recovery and any joints that need working around are built into the plan from the start rather than discovered later. Anything needing medical input, I will say so.
We go in together and train at a pace built around your recovery. Thirty minutes inside, thirty minutes afterwards. Load goes up slowly and deliberately, because the aim is to still be doing this in ten years.
You leave with a plan built around your week, your recovery and your commitments. From there it is fortnightly check-ins while you train on your own, with no end date and nothing to sign.
If you have been meaning to start for years, the first conversation costs nothing.
Book a Consultation"I've had personal trainers before. They all gave me programmes. Patrick never started with squats or calories. He wanted to understand what happened before any of that."
I work in person with women across Bracknell, Wokingham, Ascot, Crowthorne, Sandhurst and the surrounding Berkshire area, at times that fit around work and family rather than at six in the morning.
If you have searched for a personal trainer for women over 40, strength training for women over 40, or how to start the gym at 45, and the physical side was never the bit worrying you, this is the page for you.
Strength training covers what the lifting itself involves and why it matters more now. If the gym is the barrier rather than the training, read gym confidence coaching. And training for beginners is there if you have never trained at all.
This is the decade where starting makes the biggest difference to your bones, your strength and your sleep. Three to five months to training on your own, and the first session is free if nothing changes in it. Message me and tell me what you want to be able to do a year from now.
No. This is the decade where starting makes the largest difference to bone density and muscle mass, which is exactly why so many women arrive at it now.
Away from the gym, with a conversation. The first sessions involve nothing physical, so there is no fitness level required to start and nothing to be behind on.
Yes. When we get to the training, it is built around where you actually are. If anything needs medical input I will say so.
Most women are training on their own within three to five months, then move to fortnightly check-ins with no end date.
Drop me a message and tell me where you’re starting from. I’ll help you from there.
